Committed to Family Involvement
We believe that collaboration with families is key to a child’s success. Through regular updates using our parent app, weekly Zoom observations, parent conferences, and opportunities to volunteer or attend special events, we create a strong bridge between home and school.
We’re more than just a preschool; we’re a community.
What Makes Us Different?
We Take Safety Seriously.
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our students. As a Registered Family Care Home (RF539855), we are regulated by the state of Oregon and abide by all safety and program standards.
Although illness is unavoidable, our small group size, sick policy, and cleaning routines help reduce the spread of germs in our school. We teach and enforce healthy habits, like frequent handwashing and covering sneezes and coughs, and clean and sanitize frequently through out the day.
We Know Meals Matter.
We believe that nutrition and community are an important part of a child’s development. Healthy, organic snacks and lunch are included in our school tuition and make up an important part of our program.
Everyday, our children take an active role in meal time, from baking the bread for our sandwiches to setting our community table with linens, plates and cutlery. We serve our meals family style and eat together, allowing us to connect over food while practicing our conversation skills and table manners.
Our Curriculum
What Will Your Child Learn?
We are a high-fidelity Montessori preschool and follow the Children’s House activity progression, as designed by Maria Montessori. Our program fosters independence and curiosity through hands-on learning in a beautifully prepared environment. We carefully observe each child and provide personalized activities in practical life skills, math, language, writing and more to nurture each child’s natural desire to learn.
Practical Life Skills
Children develop independence, coordination, and concentration through everyday activities like pouring, cleaning, dressing, and food preparation. These tasks help build fine motor skills and foster a sense of responsibility and confidence. As children progress in the classroom, they explore more complicated activities such as baking, embroidery, and advanced art.
Sensorial Skills
Once a child has established their concentration and around age three they begin working with sensorial materials to refine their senses by exploring dimensions, shapes, colors, textures, sounds, and smells. These experiences lay the foundation for cognitive development and help children classify and understand the world around them while setting the stage for later work in Writing and Math.
Writing Skills
Preparation for writing starts as soon as the child enters the classroom with activities that develop and promote fine motor skills and language development. At around 3.5 years old, children beginning learning the sounds and formation of each letter. Children quickly progress to writing words, then sentences, then paragraphs!
Math Skills
Math instruction starts around age four using concrete materials to introduce the numbers 0-10. Children then learn how to read, write and build numbers to 9,999 before moving onto adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing multi-digit numbers.
Reading Skills
Preparation for reading starts with phonetic (sound) awareness games and writing activities. Then, children learn to decode simple words and build to reading sentences, books, and complex words. Around age five, many children begin exploring grammar (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc) and reading multi-chapter books.
Gardening, Meal Planning, and More
A huge benefit of our home environment is our ability to engage children in a variety of extension activities, including:
- Gardening– children plan, grow, and tend our extensive vegetable and fruit gardens. We then use the organic produce we have grown in our meals and snacks.
- Meal planning and preparation- children take an active role in planning and preparing healthy, organic meals for the group. This hands-on approach to nutrition inspires creativity and exploration in the kitchen.
- Art education- as an amateur artist, Ms. Anna loves sharing her love of art with the children. She incorporates a variety of art lessons and techniques into the day, that help children develop skills and explore a wide variety of artistic media.
